Memorial Day and what it means to me.
I am a veteran. I served in various duty stations from 1981 to 1991. I served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. I entered the United States Army as a private E-1 and was Honorably Discharged as a Chief Warrant Officer 2. The Army taught me how to shave out of a steel pot, eat food out of a can or pouch, drive a tank, shoot artillery with pinpoint accuracy, fly various helicopters including the AH-64 Apache, grow up, how to be responsible, how to be on time, how to pay attention to details.
On this past Memorial Day my granddaughter asked me what was Memorial Day all about. I thought about it and explained. In my opinion it’s about remembering. Remembering our nation’s warriors. The people both dead and alive that have and still do sacrifice their bodies, time and families so this great nation can stay safe.
Try to keep our nation’s heros in your hearts everyday. Remember everyday a neighbor of yours is manning a wall, flying into danger, walking a dusty path to nowhere, driving thru hostile territory, sailing towards danger, or just lonely on and missing their family somewhere.
God Bless all our men and women in the Armed Services.
